Strawberry over the weekend
#1
Due to the lack of posts over the weekend, I'm thinking others luck may have been similar to mine on Saturday? [crazy]Pretty terrible.. awesome weather, slow fishing. Fished between jakes bay and the ladders, caught a few early while flippin flies, and chuckin tube jigs/with bait. Covered a ton of water looking for active fish, but to no avail. Lots of algae on the surface still, 50* water. I suspect the warm fall temps may have something to do with it.. The fish we did catch were fat and obviously well fed.

Was hopeful after reading the last 2 DWR posts about "HOT" fishing, and "100 fish days". I'd have been happy with a fraction of that! The DWR report seems to conflict a tad with "most" of the recent BFT posts, no?

I was torn about location, maybe we just picked the wrong area. Thatd be just my luck!! Like they say in the real estate biz, it's all about location, location, and location..

Tangled what were you tipping you're jigs with? Last Tuesday three of us got 47 on white tube jigs tipped with minnows . We would anchor the boat and fish the tubs deep and slow . Most action came at 20 or less ft.we also missed a lot bringing them in.

a piece of fat, juicy night crawler. Oh, and a bit of sweet craw flavored pro cure. Most of the action was at about 15 fow

I have had recent trips that were both great and ugly. Fished last Tuesday and three anglers caught 6 fish. Fished Wednesday and I am confident that three of us caught around 100 fish and lost lots more. Fished Saturday and three anglers caught 6 fish (fished the same area and the same method that had worked on Wednesday). Saturday was one of the calmest days that I have had at Strawberry. Just wish that we could have found the fish. On all three trips we tipped tubes (and a few other lures) with cut bait, crawlers and a few other baits.

Hope that we find them again on Thursday.

Ok. Yep, I can't tell you where they were on Saturday, only where they were not. With a few exceptions, the fish finder was mostly dead. So, the moral of this story is.. cover lots of water, and keep an eye on the fish finder. Oh, and bring a ton of leftover Halloween candy just in case..

So, does anybody have any ideas of what is causing this oddity in the fishing success?

I have always experienced great success in the fall, but not this year.

Is it not yet cold enough?
Are there too many people fishing?
Did the aliens take all the fish?
Did the fish all fly home to outer space like on "Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy"?
Have I just lost my ability to fish?

Any wisdom from the sages would be greatly appreciated..

BTW, does anybody want to go fishing sometime?? I'm itching..

I have my own boat and would love to split the gas costs and fish for a day.. Weekday or weekend :-)

PM me if you're interested..

Here's my report for every day this year on Strawberry: I didn't get skunked, but fishing wasn't great. Most things I tried produced a fish or two, nothing worked particularly well.

I never fished Strawberry much until I started about August or September of last year, and just about every day last year was better than just about any day this year.

I have to agree with Dregs. We just are not seeing the great fish days like we have in years past. I have been fishing 3 times this fall at the berry and none of them have been banner. 12 to 16 fish does not a fantastic day make. I used to catch 40 in an afternoon! Same methods, same baits, same area, slow slow. My conclusion is...wait for it...less fish. No one has said that yet but I believe there are less fish. We do not see as many on the fish finders either.
What do you fellow BFT members think?

Three of us fished Rengage wed. We got 49. Tubs tiped with chub . The bite was extremely light. Not many hard hits mostly just a slight resistance. Fished slow and near the bottom . Detecting the bite was the key. I got 26 of the 49. Slightest hesitation set the hook . .Hook sets are free . ....
Also if I would let the jig fall to the bottom let it sit they would pick it up , but would swallow the jig completely . So didn't do that .the last three trips I have gotten 26,24,26.
