Don't you just love Christmas parties? I got to cut out of work a little early today after our party so I took my ice light gear and stopped at Mantua on the way home. I took it out pretty cautiously since I'm an ice chicken. But I hit the South east lobe of the lake. I was the only one there when I got on the ice, so I went up there. Later quite a group of fellow penguins joined me on the ice except they all stayed way west of where I was, don't know if that garlic I had for lunch or the thin ice east of me was the cause, but it was fine with me. Anyway there is probably 4" of ice, it's cloudy and not prime, but held me fine. I even crossed the edges without getting wet feet so passage is good. Anyway I ended up with 5 bass a Gil and a perch. Really happy with my new gear, Freefall reel is top shelf I love it and the white noise rod it's on. Thanks 13 Fishing it's great stuff. The Sonar phone came through really well today so I'm very happy with it now. And the nils auger on the drill can I say in Heaven it's so easy to punch holes I love it. Took all the hassle out of setting up. Anyway it was fun to get a first ice trip under the belt. More comments later after you see the catch. Later J

Good job. I had some business in Garland so I took my ice gear and went over the mountain and tried Twin Lakes. 4 inches of solid black ice. No fish caught, but it was a good day to be out.

Thanks it was really fun trying stuff but as you can see the fish were a little on the way small size. I was so impressed with my new rod reel set up, my old stuff wouldn't have ever let me know those little fish were after my bait. Glad I listened to everyone's advice about having a straight line with no kinks it let me set the hook and only missed one today. Hope it will be a good ice season, but I hope I can find something bigger. Later J

Larry that sounds like a fun day. Sorry to hear no bites at Twin Lakes. I've been wanting to go try that spot this winter. Not in as big of a hurry to try it anymore. Thanks for the report. J

Those are some "dandy" fish, Jeff. I'm glad you were able to get out.

Thanks, I forgot my tape and card. I should have measured those monsters since I usually can't catch bass through the ice they may be the biggest ones I get all winter for the contest. Fun to get after them, hope we get a good winter. Later J

Hey thanks and I bet that was me. I was there from 2:45 to 4:30 ish. Seen 3 vehicles go by scouting the ice. Hope you can make it soon. I think it's safe ish now. I did have my splash gear in case things went wrong. Just be careful in the area east of where I was it does get a lot thinner over there. See ya on the ice very soon. Later J

Kinda scary with all the rain today. I'm kinda surprised you were out on it yesterday with these warmer temps.
But it will cool off over next couple of days. I may try it Sunday Morning after it's had a chance to harden up.

Hey that sounds great! Do you want to go from the ramp or further east? Let's meet near the ramp and decide. I have the GMC truck that's missing the front bumper. See ya in the morning. J

Not bad there were a few others out as well. It's right around 4". I'll post a few pics when I get time to write a report.
