I fished Holmes today. There were four other people on the ice. The ice is in layers with 2" of slush in the middle. The top layer held my weight just fine. Moved a lot and drilled 30 holes. Only caught planter rainbows.

I fished Holmes Creek again yesterday. The ice is still in layers with a slush sandwich in the middle. Most areas had about 2-3" of white ice over 1-2" of slush and a bottom layer of 3-4" of clear ice. The top layer held my weight just fine except for in the southeast arm of the reservoir. It seemed to have a thinner top layer but a good 4" of ice below the slush. Inlet area has some open water and looks very thin so be careful.
Still just catching planter trout but I think I marked a couple schools of smaller crappie about 20 feet down. Still cant find the pearch, LMB, or bluegill that I was catching from my kayak this past summer. I have put over 50 holes in the hard deck there. When I do locate some productive spots i'll share. |
