More Mantua Madness - 12/27
#1
Holy tent city Fishman!! That was the madness: had to have been a good hundred groups/units/tents out on the ice today...my buddy and I set up fairly early and fairly isolated, but in an hour getting out to stretch -- we were surrounded...However -- it didn't seem to matter to the fish today, as we had a fairly good bite right up 'til 1:30 p.m. when we pulled the plug....Very nice bull bluegills today...biggest one I've ever caught, 10 1/2"....the smallest I kept was 8 1/2" and some beauties in between....In hindsight now I realize I should've let that biggest one go, and in the future (if I'm so lucky) I'll put anything 9 1/2" or bigger back for reproduction....We each got several nice average sized trout also....no perch in this area....waxies did the trick on assorted small glow bugs....If anyone here wants to know where to go on this ice, stop in the bait/snack/restaurant store right there on main street and look at their Report Map...many fishers (including me) have stopped in after their day on ice, given their report, gotten their reward....and they mark all the spots on their Report Map.....they usually have good bait, including spikes....these are good people, hope you support them when you fish there, 'cuz they're sure doing us a favor being open....slush layer frozen good enough....Guluk...
