I know everyone is anxiously awaiting the ice up at Starvation but this report is all about floating.
A buddy and I decided to go back to Starvation one more time before it freezes over. We put in at Rabbit Gulch around 10:00 and fished until 3:00. We used medium to fast sinking lines with size 8 bead head leeches and size 6 bead head soft hackle patterns. There was a few inches of new snow from the weekend storm and some small sheets of ice to watch out for but for the most part the reservoir is open water. The water temperature was 35-37 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 7'. The reservoir level is at 86% and rising.[
]
We did not have fast fishing but it was better than we had last week. We picked up one brown and the rest were those nice Starvation steelhead between 15" - 20".
With the predicted temperatures for next week this will probably be our last trip until March or April.[:/]
Good luck to the hard deck crowd, your time is coming.[
