Pressure dropping
#1
Had a good full day of ice fishing today. I tried my luck at Hyrum and I stayed busy tossing planters back all day. It was a slow perch bite in the AM but as the temps dropped and a little snow flurry came in around 2 the perch bite picked up. Most were dinky 5-6" but I did find a few that pushed 8-9" which has me hopeful they are finally growing up Smile

My best luck came with a slender spoon tipped with waxies and also a purple glow tungsten jig tipped with waxies. I've always found that a fluctuating barometer seems to get the fish going. Around 1:30 or so the barometer started falling and the fish were much more active feeders.

Nice fish! I looked at the pictures just to remind myself what fish look like.[cool]

Sunday, I fished wet waters of Flaming Gorge with a much more and very experienced local fisherman who knew where to fish and how to catch them, but the bite was off that beautiful sunny afternoon with water smooth as glass and calm wind.

He said it was pressure drop from a storm coming.

Silly fish!

They're already wet! What do they care?

But, he said they're very sensitive to pressure.

What! Go up or down a foot in the water column and that's more of a pressure change than any front can bring! Sure, they can sense pressure. Routine for them as they go up and they go down.

I'm starting to think it might be me. But, how do the fish know it's me? How do fish even communicate that they don't bite my line to fish in other reservoirs? Telepathy?

But, just to be sure, I dressed in camouflage to make sure they couldn't see me.

I caught onto this pressure thing. People are just trying to make me feel better by blaming it on pressure dropping, but I'm too smart to fall for that nice attempt to make me feel better about the fish deciding not to visit with me.

How to I get right with the fish?

P.S. Echo looked like it had a hundred people ice fishing on my way back Monday afternoon.
