Does anybody have information regarding ice safety on the narrows at pineview? It is one of my favorite spots to fish and I want to get up there soon.

Me and my bro, muskycoop, were able to get down to the narrows last saturday morning. Ice was plenty thick 8" solid clear with 2" crusty on top. The buoyes to the damn was open when we got there but had almost capped over by the time we left as it was about -12 degrees!! The edges were somewhat soft with all the snow. That's the main issue up there now, there is nowhere to park because the plows haven't cleared any areas to park. We tried packing the snow down a bit to park but ended up getting stuck and had to be pulled out. Hope they can clear out a couple areas to park there soon. Hope this helps.

In the winter time do they usually plow the main ramp area? Also since they haven't plowed it yet do they still enforce a fee to park in an area that you get stuck in? I remember theystjll charged people to park in the latter's at strawberry and their was a lot of time's I had to leave mid-day when it was snowing even with a 4×4. But I believe they don't charge in the winter time anymore.

I have never seen them plow the west ramp road or parking areas. The concessionaire seems to say "If you aren't paying, we aren't working."
The road to Cemetery Point gets plowed by the city, but for cemetery access, not for recreation. The unofficial parking area in the Narrows is used more to dump snow than allow for parking. [signature]

What kind of vehicle were you in jcoop7? If I had an offroad SUV with offroad tires, do you think I'd be ok?

I didn't get out today due to work. Sorry for the lack of a report, but I will be going tomorrow, especially since the traffic cam at the narrows shows that the open water at the buoys froze overnight last night.
