New Boat lake Powell trip report 4/24-27
#1
Thought I had posted this a bit ago but it does not show up. Not many reports on Powell so I thought  I would post one. Time to get down there. Fished north and south of Bullfrog Thurs, Friday, Saturday.
Got into lots of SMB, some LMB , walleye and nice crappie. Stripers didn’t target they are everywhere. Trolling deep running crank sits off points in main lane will produce stripers and walleyes as well. Once a school of stripers is located can jig or spoon them as well.
Curl tail grubs ,  tubes, ned rigs and dropshot crawfish and shad colors are working well , crank baits cast and trolled are producing. Fish are moving up to spawn 5-20 is good depth range to target. Fish rock piles and cuts in main lake and canyons. Crappie around submerged brush or tumble weeds.
Crappie when you can find them
Will take smaller jigs and curl tails and even small crank sits.
New boat worked out great handled rough Andy conditions on last day well.
Now that I have new boat time to sell my trusty old fishing boat loaded with everything need to hit the water for most any fishing! I posted it for sale on BFT and classifieds. Here’s some pics from the trip.

FIRST PICTURE IS GREGOR 17’ w 50 hp Merc I am selling!

I always love to see Powell pictures.  Last time I went down (3 years ago) I got caught in a huge windstorm with massive waves and couldn't fish at all. Had set up camp in warm creek and the wind blew for 2 days and had me pinned down in camp. As soon as it let up enough I pulled everything up and made a run for the marina.  I need a redemption trip!

I read your report on Wayne’s Words. Congrats on your new boat. Just curious if you had taken your old tiller boat to Powell and if so how did it perform! I’ve just upgraded from a Oldtown PDL fishing kayak to a 2021 Tracker Super Guide V16 tiller boat with a 40hp Mercury and am curious if that’s big enough for Powell! A few years ago I had some success fishing from my kayak at Farley’s Canyon and Blue Notch but since the water levels have dropped so much those options are no longer an option!

Great report. Tough to see alot of great structures high and dry
Remember: keep the lid on the worms, share your jerky, and stop by to say hi to Cookie and the Cowboy-Pirate crew

I’ve used the Gregor tiller at Powell many times. It will cruise at 30mph at Powell with 2 guys and will handle rough conditions but you have to take it slow. Super sea-worthy boat. I’ve been in the ocean off the coast of Washington chasing salmon and bottom fish, In a twin to that boat! I limit the distance I run when I was using it at Powell and pay close attn. to weather and wind. Often towed it behind the houseboat then fished reasonable distance from there. You have to be smart and watch the weather when in a smaller boat. Back when Hite launch was still available lots of good fishing not far from launch, I used it up there a lot. I upgraded for more comfort for me and my wife and ability to cover more area when at lake Powell and Flaming Gorge.
