Me and my soon to be wife hit starvy Saturday about 5, went over to knights, pull cranks allover searching for eyes, only bows,
she did get on of the good one all the rest where small,
only a couple others showed up for the evening, they said the same thing only bows, at dark with the moon up, decided to check a couple ridges on the way up above the bridge, couldnt mark much, only a one here or there, a friend of her said along the cliffs, so running as close as I could with the breeze, didnt make it far and it was game on, 26.5, a good start,

well that was the biggest, only found a few more small eyes and some bows, hit the ramp at 1, fishing after dark is fun, big moon and great company makes it better for sure.

Doing your thing Mike! You have a way with those big eyes. When I grow up I wanna be a walleye fisher just like you. Pretty bow and a pretty lady too. I hope all of them are keepers.

Well she is for sure a keeper, I dont think I get to with out her, she's almost a crazy as me for them, at least fishing she is, Im still working on the jigin part, but she would troll all night with me.
you just got to be brave or crazy, troll 20 to 30 ft from the cliff in the dark in the wind, thats why the moon is nice, you can almost see, trust your GPS.
water temps, 58-64 depending on where, the eyes should be moving in shallow soon, knowing when and where to be.

Hey Mike, congrats and best wishes for your upcoming life modification. Glad you found a "keeper". Once the water warms and the post-spawn feedup starts you should have better luck getting your new boatmate into liking the cast and retrieve approach. Amazing what a little success can do to increasing enthusiasm. And your past successes are what keeps you chuckin' and windin' on the slow days...staying alert and expectant for that magic CHOMP.
Sounds like you are developing a "thang" fer Starvy.

There wasnt much bug activity in knights to bring the little ones in so the big ones come in to eat them, a couple weeks they will move into knights,
Ima tryin to get my "thang," need to corner a biologist and pump them for info on the spawn, wheres and whens, I know the big mamas, pre spawn can be caught, Im just havent zeroed them in, YET, after last fall when she caught that big laker, she likes the Goerge, so I have go both places, between Kokes, lakers and eyes choices can be rough, I know its tough duty but someone has to do it

So...find the perch and the wallies will be nearby. And the perch don't start moving inshore and into their defined feeding areas until water temps top 60-65 degrees. That is usually about mid June. Good places to try then are Saleratus Wash, both the north and south shorelines in Knights Hollow, Juniper Point, up above the bridge in the river arm along the walls, and several areas inside Bunny Gulch. For some bigguns fish the full moon in June on the weedy flats on the north side of Bunny Gulch...between the little islands and the point toward the west end of that arm. Amazing the size of the fish that come in to chow down in the shallow warming water full of perchies. Think big plastic swim baits or jointed floater-divers. You'll get some vegetation (for salad later) but odds are good for big meat too. And definitely less power squadron distractions at night.

We already have reservations for weekend before the june moon, saleratus to the inlet is where we done great last year, if we are trollin, always one with a big offering, it has paid off more than once, above the bridge is where I got the one saturday, and when the power squad leaves, lake turns to glass, moon glistening on the water, its worth it, little unnerving running either that shallow or that close to a cliff in the dark, trusting the GPS, so far its just cost a couple lures, a lot going on, always on high alert, but holding one of those biggun is worth it,

One of the "quiet minority" guys I know...who probably catches more BIG walleyes than anyone in Starvy...fishes those big Castaic rainbow plastics and cranks. DWR plants hatchery pet bows in September each year and the big walleyes glut on them until the harsh cold sets in.

I'll be watching for him, Im not to worried about being over run by fishermen by telling my story, Ive seen it at ul. they come for a couple hours and go, most dont realize what it takes to learn how to, patience mostly.

Sometimes there is a fine line between patience and stubbornness. But, as fisherfolk we are free to make our own definitions. And if you catch fish, you can call it whatever ya want.
