The ice is on average 5 feet by March. We where still ice fishing the first week of April. But once the sun is up and it warms up the ice goes quick.
Was out with the kids today and got a couple pike, not hitting aggressive yet just following out of instinct. There where alot of small pike coming to shore and then this monster drifts on by. You should have seen the kids, they shouted "Dad did you see that, did you see that". Yes I was standing right beside you. Makes it worth it just to see the excitement.

Thanks arcticfishin,
I heard those guys bite really well just after ice-out and then again when the vegatation starts of die and they lose their cover in the fall.
Are you using wire leaders? Are you flyfishing for them? Now, that would be cool with a saltwater #9 outfit and a few decievers and clousers!
Did you hear that some nitwit, put a muskie skeleton together that ended up being 19 feet long!? Sheeeh!

Here is another attempt at some pics. Northerns, we are trying to set a time to go to the east arm of great slave lake for some fantastic trout action. Also trying to get to great bear lake in August for a overnight trout bonanza.
Enjoy
