#1
Hey guys I'm new to ice fishing, and I know there's no ice but I just to be prepared. I want to head over to strawberry, but I don't know a good location, can someone please give me a nice location to fish for bows and cutts. What kind of tackle would you recommened? What kind of baits and/or lures would I need? Thanks guys.

renegade if you can get over there is always hot early, soldier creek side for bows is always good, marina side early in the ice fishing year. I despise the ladders and chicken creek but early it can produce well but not many fish for me ever. Maniac minnows, white/chartreuse paddle bugs, white tube jigs all are standard up there. I'd have a flasher/weight attached, usually a swedish pimple or spoon, just remove the treble jook and tie onto your line and run 18 inches of leader to your jig. that helps with weight to get it down there and feel your jig and also helps attract them. also tip all jigs with a chunk of cut bait or wax/meal worm. I'd get a 2nd pole license as well, one pole sitting on the bottom with a chunk of cut bait/dead minnow and the other be your jigging pole.

Mud Creek is one of the first accessible areas to freeze up. It is usually good first ice, and is fishable before the whole lake is capped.

I fish with a lot of the things mentioned. A lot of what to use has to do with what you have confidence in and what you like to fish.

Berkley power nymphs work good in white and chartruse. So do lots of different ice flies and small tube body jigs. I have never fished powerbait, but I have seen people cleaning up on rainbows last year in Soldier Creek with it.

In my opinion, if you aren't catching fish, move around till you find some.

As it gets closer, if you want to meet up with people to kind of learn some different tactics, this forum is a good place to solicit an invite from forum members. We all started ourselves at one time.
