Cascade help
#21
my bad.... I was think 2.6 lbs.... not 2 lbs 6oz... if it were the 2.6 pounds that is the same as 2 9.6oz.s right? i'm no good with weights.... I got one that was 2.41 lbs last year at the Hard Water Classic... not so lucky this year, the biggest i've caught I have released so no weight was recorded but it was 15 1/2" thou, and lots of 14"+ fish have been released as well, hopefully too become the state record...

Not bad luck Neil. You're just building points that you'll cash into the fish god for a giant jumbo later. Maybe it will even be next record one.

I've been gunning for the record for 3 years now...... maybe this will be the lucky year.... HnH you have not been fishing with me of late.... I think that's the problem, you always catch those big one's when were fishing together.....

I admire the fact that you return those big hens Matt. With your ability to catch them the lake would suffer if you didn't toss them back. Me, on the other hand, can't catch enough of them to do much harm. But I have to say that when I got home and tossed my big one on the scale I felt somewhat bummed. She should have went back in because a month from now she could have been pushing record proportions. Those 11" fish are the best to eat anyway IMHO.

And easier to fillet too. I actually prefer the 11-13 class of fish. But I'll take the big ones too.[Smile]

Someone's gotta...... I see all these post's after post's of people keeping all these 14"+ fish.... those fish help make a stable population.... eat little one's and pass on "BIG" gene's..... I would like too see a limit on the large fish kept just like every other trophy fishery.... that's all I will say.... I don't have very popular idea's if I go any further.... (Slot limits/over all limits)

I would have to say that I disagree. perch seem to repopulate way fast. then you run into problems like they have at Roberts gravel pond where there are so many that they don't have a chance to get big at all. and you cant catch anything but 2-3 inch perch. and with as popular as it is and has been for the past decade I would almost want say with a lot of confidence that there should be a problem with that ever. and on that note as sportsmen and ethical responsible sportsmen we should never keep or take more than we are gonna eat. I understand fishing for food and fun. when the freezer is full just let them go to grow. but there are people out there that will keep everything that they catch. so please as a responsible sportsman only keep what you will use.

Gosh. This is going to turn into another management debate.

I think a big part of Matt's point is that the big ones eat the little ones and help to keep the population of little ones in check. Even 8 and 9 inchers produce eggs, and if you don't have enough big ones, you will almost certainly over populate over time. With the birds, Bass, squaws, trout, coho, tiger muskie, etc, that may not ever happen in Cascade, BUT I personally would rather have an under population so that there is enough food to create big ones, the an over population where there is not enough food and the little ones get stunted, but still breed and compound the problem. I say, lets err on the under population side. Then we can still have the wonderfully diverse fishery that is Cascade.[Smile]

We had a great time, caught lots of fish. Met flyfisher, and some of his buddies from Boise, showed us a few spots.... thank you!
We caught some beauties, up to 15 1/2" and just over 2 lbs.
Wish it were closer, but maybe next year... Thanks for all the help! Great times, and great hospitality. Dan
