On Saturday, there was ice for a few hundred yards out at Rock Cliff. There was one ice shelter out on the ice. The ice had not been there a couple days earlier, so it is fairly new. Should continue to form if the weather stays cold. Fishing for perch on the ice ought to be pretty good this winter at Jordanelle. The DWR suggests keeping a full limit, as the perch are really exploding there. Jan. 1 the limit increases from 20 to 50. Shore fisherman have been doing fairly well at the State Park for rainbows. Night crawler seems to be the ticket--not so much luck with Power Bait. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I hope that i can make it up there soon to help reduce the Perch population. Do you know how far they plow the road past the guard station at rockcliff?

If it is plowed at all, it will be just to the Nature Center parking lot (which is still open on weekends). If it hasn't been plowed however, it is all paved road underneath the snow. I'll be back up there tomorrow and can give you more info after that.

After getting skunked at Strawberry we ran by Jordanelle to see if the ice was safe enough to fish. When we arrived, we found ice as far out as you could see (which wasn't very far with the snow....maybe 200 yards?) I drilled a hole a few feet out and it was six inches thick. I walked out about 50 more yards and it was still about 4.5-5 inches thick. Problem......when I drilled that second hole it was only about three feet deep under the ice. My auger hit the dang asphalt from the old highway and banged up my blades really bad. I couldn't drill another hole no matter how hard I tried. I walked out a ways out onto the ice and it held. I heard some creaking, but I guess it still had to be at least 3 inches thick. It held me and I'm 230#. I would say that if the weather stays as cold as this that it sould be more than safe by next week.

Shrimpboy,

You got skunked at Strawberry? Where were you and what did you use? Did you have a fishfinder and mark any fish?

I was exactly where you said you were on the 26th. I was marking fish, but they wanted nothing to do with me. My cousin's boy had a nice hit, but that was it. Petty was there too and from the sounds of his post he never got one up either.

Yes the gate is open and it was plowed all the way down to the water at one time. It didn't look like it had been done in a few days though. We pulled down to the port-o-john (about 60 yards from the end of the road.

Anthony- I don't know if drove down to the Rock Cliff area or not, but there is ice there and I would have total confidence fishing it out as far as I walked (100 yards). I didn't have a working auger to check it by the time I got out there though. I'm planning on getting up there next week. I'd put money on it being fishable.

Jordanelle--Dec. 30

I observed a total of 7 anglers on the ice. Talked to one--he brought out a limit of rainbows, also caught several small perch. The ice was 4-6 inches thick and he was out about 200 yards. I would still suggest extreme caution as this is the Provo River inlet. The road is not plowed and likely will not be--there has been so much snow that the park employees can't even keep the main park clear. If you go to Rock Cliff you'll need 4-wheel drive.
