East Canyon 5/29 A.M.
#1
Here's my measly part of the report. Bassrods will have to give details, like the water temperature, depth, exact locations, and stuff.

I arrived at about 7 A.M. *mutters about this being awake at the butt-crack of dawn nonsense* By then, he'd already caught one (or at least kept one) bass.
The first hour was really good. We used plastic grub/worms in a green color. I got my first one around 7:45, but let it go because it was over 12". Then I got another one I could keep. Of course, me being senile, I don't remember exactly how many I got. 4 or 5, I think. Kept 2, let 2 go and lost one...I probably didn't set the hook well enough. But it was pretty big, so it would've been set free anyway!

Then we tried minnows on a drop shot...but whether it was "wrong" bait, or the weather, or whatever, it got rather slow after about 8:45, and started raining/hailing about 10:15. Bassrods took me back to the dock, because he said he didn't want my little self getting pneumonia. But I think it was really him being tired of me whining about being cold Wink
Me and his dog had a whining contest...she wanted to go play on the shore, I wanted more sunshine and warmth! It got windy at times, and I don't mind the actual wind itself, but the fact it makes me colder!

So, it probably wasn't the "fastest" day for catching stuff, but at least I finally got somethin'!

And yes, I'm sore. Mostly my legs, but it's probably because I'm not used to balancing on a boat for 3 hours at a time. Hands cramped up a bit, from all the reeling (especially since I had to actually fight something today!), but they're okay now.

I'm going back to bed!

I let you off just in time the rain and hail and wind made white caps about 2' to 3' high...

We caught 6 bass (Vivid-Dawn) got 4 of the 6 her biggest was 14" and around 2 lb she did real good..It rained and hailed on us I was looking for snow next, not the best day for bass fishing...

Water temps was 55 to 56 and when the wind came up it dropped to 53, I tried to fish some after the wind came up but gave it up after about an hour...

I will send the pictures over to TD to post, and Dawn did keep 3 bass under 12" and let all others over 12" go .....

It was a great time and hope we can do it again soon (with better weather)...

Well, technically you only talked with Cliff. I was too busy fishing Wink

Hookjaw - Actually, he offered to let me keep an extra one, but I let it go. Don't wanna keep too much, then end up not liking the taste. I'm gonna cook 'em tonight, and try bass for the first time!
Debating if I want to use my usual recipe for pan-fried, or try the grill. Sore and lazy, so probably the pan. Then this weekend I can spend more time with charcoal and all that.

[cool][#0000ff]I got the pics from Bassrods and stuck them in your post. Lookin' good.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, from all the whimperin' and whinin' you do when it is too early or too cold I think we are going to have to change your user name to "Wimpy-Dawn". Or maybe Vivid-Noon.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Glad you had the chance to get out and glad you scored some fish. It can only get better from here on.[/#0000ff]

When it gets warmer (like in the 90s), I'll be just fine.
And I think I'll start targeting catfish, that way I can do it in the evening!
Problem solved Wink LOL
Or maybe if/when my dedication gets firmer, I'll be more stalwart!

[#008000]Hey Vivid-Dawn,[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Congratulations on your first fish.

I'm glad to see you got some. You'll be hard core before long, and could be a lecturing "guess-pert" at our one of our furture Fishing 101 seminars. [/#008000]
[#008000]
Let me help fill in some of the details for you;[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000](in Angler-eese)[/#008000]
[#008000] [/#008000]
[#008000][#008000]water temperature[/#008000] = cool to the touch, [/#008000]
[#008000][#008000]air temperature[/#008000] = mid morning mountain brisk, [/#008000]
[#008000][#008000]depth [/#008000]= around under the boat, [/#008000]
[#008000][#008000]exact location[/#008000] = about where the fish were, [/#008000]
[#008000][#008000]stuff[/#008000] = basic bouncing bassboat, drop shot, mojo, plastics, casting, jigging, general slow mosey with trolling motor, etc.

It's not surprising that Bassrods got you into some fish as he seems to be able to do that on a fairly regular basis, however, it is kind of surprising that he was OK with you keeping some bass for dinner. Kudos to Bassrods on both accounts.

Now to train for your next outing on a boat, find yourself a Labrador Retiever, tie a milk bone on the end of your rod (no hook), then stand on a trampoline with the happy Lab and play keep away from the dog for as long as you can - you'll have your sea legs in no time.

Don't forget the only bass that she kept was some under 12", she let all over 12 swim free like it should be...[crazy][angelic][angelic][angelic][sly]

When you have some one that wants to catch fish as much as Dawn its makes the job easy and fun...
