Tubing Utah Lake tomorrow (7/23/03)
#1
Hey all, I'll be heading out to Utah Lake tomorrow morning for a bit o' fishing 6-10 a.m. I'll be in a maroon pontoon boat with "drifter" on the side of it. If any of you are going to be out there, stop on by! I'd like to meet some more BFT folk in person.

The other distinguishing factor about recognizing me is that there will be a flyrod in my hands or in a rod holder. I figure I'm one of the very few that are Sadistic enough to try to flyfish Utah Lake.

I'm going to try to fish around the dikes and see what I can pick up. I've never fished the Provo Harbor dikes before, any suggestions (I also use a spinning outfit)???

See you on the water!

In the late evenings I've seen guys get some pretty good action for LMB on small poppers on a fly rod.

I would love to come along. I've been wanting to hook into a wiper ever since I've been hanging around BFT. Unfortuneately/fortuneately tomorrow is my daughters b-day. Keep the invites coming, especially if you throw something together down here at Utah Lake. Catch a few for me!

See you on the water!

Fair enough. I'm still trying to learn parts of the lake. Hopefully by the time we are able to get together on Utah Lake I'll have some knowledge to share. I've gleened a ton of information from everyone here. Now to put the application of it all together!

I've only seen the people fishing with poppers at AF boat harbor. There was one guy that was doing alright near the boat docks, but the guy that was fishing the dike, near structure, seemed to be doing a little better. He had a smaller popper too and was catching bluegill and crappie in addition to the LMB.

It is quite easy to move around with a float tube in Utah Lake. I have done it several times, however I haven't done it in the last couple of years. As long as you move out into at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet of water you're fine. If you get too far into the cattails or something sometimes you'll run into submerged reeds or something though. Just be extremely careful because the wind can pick up and create huge dangerous waves in a matter of 15 minutes, so don't be paddling way out into open water unless you have someone in a boat nearby that can pull you out before you drown! [Smile]

I have fished just south of the Provo Marina, and also at the Bubble Up near the Lindon Boat Harbor with my floattube. Works quite well.

I've caught Walleye, White Bass, Largemouth Bass, Bullhead Catfish, Channel Catfish, Bluegill, and Carp at the Bubble-Up at different times. If you went there now, I would expect to catch a lot of bullheads, most likely some white bass too, and if you do it right, one or two really nice sized Channel Cats as well.

I only caught bluegill when the water was a lot higher, but I'm sure they're still around at least in small numbers.

I'm probably going out there tonight and maybe tomorrow morning too. I might bring my float tube and my little brother along.
