Lance was a great guy. I knew him for close to 30 years. The fishing community around Ogden has a huge hole left by this tragedy. My condolences to his family. [reply][/reply]

It is very indeed. There is a fundraiser to raise money for his family if anyone is interested. Link is below.

It was a 20.5’ Larson fishing Boat.
Capable of most conditions on the gorge, it was just a short series of bad waves combined with the wind that flipped it over quickly. Unfortunately lance was trying to keep the boat upright & afloat & never had a chance to grab a life jacket before the boat went over. The weather turned fast and the wind was blowing hard, it was honesty the worst waves on the gorge in a while, we went out in a 30’ cruiser to help rescue a pair of jet skiers that got caught in it as well in Lucerne bay and it was bad enough that it was tossing us around pretty bad. We were there and watched as the ambulance and sheriff came in with lights on and left with lights off, knowing that whomever they came for did not make it and got a knot in my stomach. It was indeed the worst wind I have ever seen there and it broke several tents and RV awnings in the campsites around us, waves were huge and unpredictable. I did not know Lance but I still want to cry for his family, being a husband and father I can only imagine what this is doing to his family.

Thats right. I was thinking Sunday morning for some reason but wind came Sat. night.
Sucks to hear this kind of stuff on the old stomping grounds. We're going this weekend and the weather is showing around 12 kts from the Northwest around noon. Its that time of year of unpredictable weather though. [signature]

This is the second friend that I have lost to drowning, first Greg Jonas and now Lance. Lance's father, Earl, is a long time associate and I had the pleasure of fishing with Lance when he was a teen ( he kicked my butt!!). I am very sorry to hear about this accident and the loss of a great man. My condolences go out to his family and friends !! He will be missed !

Sure a deal, hate to hear that for the family and all who knew and will miss him...
I hate wind, it just causes so many problems.. amazing it could cause that big of boat to get flipped, reminds me of the other one on bear lake a couple summers ago that got the Dr. and some kids... Both big capable boats that you wouldn't think would have an issue, yet both flipped and resulted in fatalities.. Makes me want to be even more careful when I see any wind start to come up... My 16 footer wouldn't stand a chance if these big nice boats get in trouble... Don't think we can ever be too careful... Later J [signature] |
