But I figure a 30# King Salmon ought to classify as a
whopper.

Here's the pic link

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1595093&a=12154051&p
=50806276&Sequence=0&res=high

Nice fish, Jan. Where's Humboldt County? Is it out on the Olympic Peninsula? I lived in Ferndale for about 8 years and on a clear day could see the Olympic Range from up on the hills overlooking Puget Sound. How'd you catch the king? This one was a keeper, and hit the BBQ Sat. evening, with the light line and barbless hooks "release" is a way of life here. lol
This is the first one I've kept in quite a while as don't normaly fish them much in the saltwater, mostly toss lures at them in the Mad river on 8# line, that can get exciting now and then.
This one was killed on a Calstar t-90 on 30# on a 5 in krocidile silver/mack finish.
Guess a yellowtail jig stick works just fine on salmon too, it sure doesn't get much of a work out on fork tails up here.

I pretty much fish the larger rockfish and lings up here on fishtraps and other plastics off Trinidad head on Calico weight gear or try for the halibut now and then in the bay, some are in the "Barn door" class here.

I'm going to attempt flyfishing rockfish this year as soon as the water settles down in close to Trinidad head, it should be a ball.
