Deer Creek
#1
I went and did a little shore fishing at Deer Creek yesterday. I fished from the island and threw some powerbait out there. I caught three trout and they were all very plump healthy fish. The wind made the fishing kinda tough. Two of the rainbows I caught were very silver in color and the larger fish was almost black on top and very gray on its sides. Anyone know why this is? Anyway, the fishing was ok and it was nice to get out.

In my experience of going to Deer Creek, anytime I have caught the darker colored fish, they have always been full of eggs. Last week I went fishing up to Deer Creek from the same spot you were talking about, caught a bunch of Bows, cleaned them and sure enough the darker ones had a bunch of eggs.

Some rainbows get darker as they get closer to the spawn but it depends on the strain of rainbow. WH2

A bunch of years ago a friend of mine caught a trout out of Deer Creek but we could not positively identify the fish. We decided it had to be an albino Brown because of the very light color. My friend took the fish to the Springville DWR office and was told that it was a Brown. The light color comes from the fish being in deep water. The more time the fish spends in the deep water, the lighter the color becomes. As they spend time in shallow water, they take on a darker color.
