Ok Ive been hunting some monster Grass carp for a few weeks now. I found a good lake. My first two trips to this lake I saw a large number of carp..but they were never really in feeding mode. They were just chillin in a few spots doing nothing. Well my third trip out....I finally see them feeding on something on the surface...They were gulping every few minutes....Felt like i was on Lake hebgon in MT. I threw all sorts of tiny dandruff flies and some emerger patterns. But no luck at all. I could not see what they were gulping. Any ideas on Fly patterns or what they may have been eating naturally??

Not sure what is happening where you live and I am by no means an expert at carp. Try nymphs like Haresear, pheasant talis, Prince nymphs....they work specially with rubber legs on the haresear. They work very well every time I have tried them.
Speaking of Hebgen....what a lake for those evening brown gulpers! Right ON!

These carp were def feeding on the surface. I tried a small hopper with a prince as a dropper. No dice. Yeah you gotta love hebgen browns. Freakin Footballs! But thats what this Carp looked like....Gulping just like trout!

I know what your saying. While at Utah with TD, I noticed what I thought was drift wood in the water. When I got closer, I noticed it was like 10 big ol' Carps rolling around, so I cast a haresear over them and started to strip back fairly quick. Caught three doing that, but like I said, I am new to this game also. So far at the places I have tried however, it works.

I finally started throwing size 20 rusty spinners and just pretended I was on Hebgen LOL. I hooked a few Bream. To bad it was on a 6wt.

Have you tried any Glow Bugs?? I used to catch them on the Corn and Cheese colored yarn. You just need to tie them on a slightly bigger hook. #12 should be about right.[cool]

One windy day at a local pond full of large grass carp i noticed that they were eating leaves that have fallen on the water. i was bored so i hooked a leaf put a weighted bobber on and casted out and boom i hooked one and struggled with it for 20 minutes oulled it in and it was 3 ft long. I cant believe i caught a fish on a leaf. espacialy one that big!

I can believe it. I won a box of CARP FLIES Saturday and I gotta show you two very intersting flies.
The top one is supose to represent CORN, the second is a fuzzy foam of sorts and it looks like a tiny slice of bread.

Those look good. The Carp in my area also love corn or even little bread balls.
Since they tend to have a sweet tooth, I sometimes use the Kings Hawaiian bread.[cool]

I'm only half nuts. That's why I am able to only use half of the bread for the carp and I get to eat the other half of the bait....errr....bread![cool]

Although the carp would like it, I don't share any of my special jelly with them.
Carp will generally have a sweet tooth. Sometimes I make my own dough balls and I make them really sweet.
When I don't have time,(that means I missed lunch too) then I just pick up a meal for all of us. Even the big loaves of Kings is good stuff.[cool]
