Its a light action All Star.. pretty whipy tip but its got a plenty good backbone. I use the other rod/reel (twin set-up) for Crappie and White Bass. I've caught some 3-4.5lb river Smallies on it and have to say is was a great time! Application wise I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a Bass tournament rod but if you want something fun and reliable it'll deliver.
The reel will take just about anything you throw at it, though. Quantum tested these reels on Tarpon w/o flaw and I've landed a good # of 40"+ Muskies with the same reel on a heavier stick.
It's a good combination but you'll have to decide that yourself for how and what you'll want to use it.
