Took an afternoon trip to Porcupine yesterday. The reservoir is pretty full and the water is a little murky from turnover. Had no luck casting spinners, Jake's and kastmasters from shore. At about 5:00, a storm blew in and sent me scrambling for the truck. It rained good for about a half hour and then got nice and calm.
Got tired of hopeless casting so I hopped in the E. Fk. of the Little Bear below Porcupine Dam. I can never pass up a stream--must be in my blood. Caught 5 browns (8-10 in.) on the standby silver mepps. The water is very low in the stream--not much coming out of the dam. The fish are plentiful but skittish. There were a few small BWO's flying around, but I was too lazy to pull out the fly rod--the spinning rod was already rigged up. I saw a couple large fish--maybe 14-15 in.--in the spillway pool. I'm pretty sure they were rainbows. They didn't like what I was throwing at them though. All in all a worthwhile trip.
