I would like to know what everyones favorite Utah fishing hole is? (call it a servey if you like.)Mine would have to be Strawberry, there's many generations of fish storys on this lake, state records, great tasting (red flesh)trout!! I'm starting my own generation of strawberry anglers that I hope will pass the tradition on and on. And with the new regs," hopefully someday",we can have the kind of fish they had 20+ years ago!!-TIBBZZ-

I can't pick just one. I guess it matches my nature--I can't go to the same place every time so I can't pick one favorite. I might be able to narrow it down to 3 or 4... or 5...
Currant Creek (stream, not res.) is probably becoming my top choice--lots of browns and some of them get pretty hefty. The West Fork of the Duchesne is my favorite cutthroat stream. I also love the wild section of the Strawberry River near the pinnacles, for fishing and for scenery... I could go on forever.
Rather than a favorite fishin' hole I guess I have a favorite fishin' strategy--try as many new places as I can.

I have many favorites, but it always seems that when the wife is mad, work sucked, or my day has just gone to sh!% and I want to catch some fish, I usually go to the Weber. I have lived in this area for a long time and know most of the holes, so my chances of catching a couple of browns is pretty good. Even the public sections that get fished heavily produce fish more often than not.

I really don't have a favorite spot. any where it is away from the city and the noise is good for me.Nothing like sitting and listening to the birds and the wind or should I just say nature at its best. To catch a fish or two is a plus for me.

One vote for Lake Powell. Lots of fish, huge variety of fish and scenery that ALMOST makes me forget about fishing.

I hardly ever get to fish my favorite. Its just too far from home.
STARVATION. Why? I just love the lake. I love the structure. Big boulders, huge drop offs, humps, flats, almost everything. If it had a little more cover like scattered streches of weed beds, reeds, ect. I cant imagine a better lake to fish.
Its got deep water, shallow water, multiple inlets, and thats not even mentioning the fish. Smallmouth and walleye, plus big brown trout. They even stocked lake trout in there at one time.

[green]Jordanelle is first. Smallies and the scenery. If Strawberry had a Smallie population worth catching, I would be there. Like Tibbzz said, I used to think it was the best. I have spent many days and hours up there in both solid and liquid state. [/green]

I would have to go with Fish Lake overall. I love the scenery, and the fishing is top notch. I've caught my heaviest fish there, and I've caught the most fish I've caught in a day there. I like the variety of fish, and fishing that is done there, and it hasn't been overrun by the weekend wind warriors, yet. Of all the times I've been there, I've yet to see a single jet ski. The average boat is a 14' aluminum, not the 30 footers I see on the Gorge.
Basically, it's still a fishing lake, instead of a play lake for the rich. That's what I look for in a lake. That's what I look for in life. I'll probably end up buying a few hundred acres in the back woods of Montana before I feel like I'm away from it all. Just somewhat difficult to find a Network Administration position up there.

[i]I don't think strawberry would stay strawberry forever, what with all those illegal stocking by bucket biologists.
It definitely would be interesting to see smallies in there Tomegun. But I kinda don't think it would be a success because strawberry stays pretty cold most part of the year.
As far as my favorite goes, its Jordanelle in first place, Yuba and Willard coming in a tie for 2nd. Deer Creek is running 3rd with Starvation in 4th[b]

I love just about every lake I've fished but the ones that really get the memories going are the ones I hiked into with my dad when I was a kid.
Heck the biggest Bonneville cutthroat trout I've ever caught was a place I never fish any more but it still is a beautiful lake that isn't fished by many people heck I don't think most of the locals even know their is fish in it.
I keep the names simply to keep these pristine places pristine.

I heard a rumor that some helpful angler (sarcasm) has already put smallmouth in Strawberry. Where will the backyard biologist stop?.......... If he's listening, how about some flatheads in Utah Lake, or some pirhanna in Pineview to thin out the water skiers, or some peacock bass in Willard just for grins, maybe some taimen in the Gorge to eat excess macks, would love some arctic char in the high Uintas...........Just kidding.
On the favorite fishing hole, I know it's traitor talk, but it has to be the Sea of Cortez. Bahia de Los Angeles to be specific. I love all the waters in Utah and have fished them faithfully for the last 25 years, but there is no comparison. It's a two day drive for tuna, dorado, corvina, sea bass, barracuda, perch, bonita, halibut, grouper, trigger fish, perch, roosterfish, marlin, sailfish, mackeral, yellowtail, sierra, rockfish, cod, sculpin.......... and on and on and on. If you love to fish, and I can tell you all do, go there once in your life. The terrain is like Utah meets the ocean. It's still basically a wilderness and untapped fisheries and its really not that far. Camp on the beach and bring a kayak or your own boat and you will be addicted. Now, off my soapbox.
In Utah, I would have to pick Bear Lake because it's just so damn pretty and for some reason those cutthroat are delicious. That's enough out of this wiseguy.
Good Fishing, Kayote

I'll have to say Willard because it is so close and of course the wipers. If I get to fish Deer creek a little more this year and learn to catch those walleye, it might be my second choice but until then my second choice would be Bear lake or Starvation. WH2

quetepuni, you are right down my alley. The west Fork of the duchesne is one of my favorites, Current creek, ( the creek) has produced the biggest brown and fish I have ever caught. I do enjoy a night out on the berry. I would have to say my all time favorite place is Moon Lake, when I can launch my boat. But there is much more than just fishing that makes that place "my place of choice"

Since Kayote started it I want to vote for spots other than Utah too. Atlantis canyon 123 miles off Montauk Ny. 2000 fathoms of water, Bigeye, Yellowfin, Bluefin, Makos and White Marlin. All on a custom 48ft Striker named the Flying Cloud 3. No chairs, no tie downs, stand up and fight like a man. Nothing in the world like it. God Bless Tred Barta, my hero.

It was caught just below the dam this time of year 2 yrs ago, I didnt have a measuring device, but it had to be in the mid 20 inch range. Caught me by surprise, cause all I was catching was 12 inch browns all weekend. It wasnt only long but really fat. I was so excited that when I caught it cradled it like a baby and ran with it for like 75-100 yards just to show my buddy, so I could have a witness, then let him go, hopefully he is still cruising around up there, I never get skunked on that stream!!!

Polokid,
I've caught a few 18-inchers in that stretch and missed quite a few larger ones. That's my favorite stretch on Currant Cr.
