Does anybody know how the tiger trout are over in hunnington? about how big are they? I've heard that the trib's are the best to fish in. what is the best way to get there? can you get there from the moroni side or do you have to go over the mountain to hunnington itself?

Huntington sits on the top of fairview canyon.From SLC head to fairview and take the road to huntington/castle dale,the lake is right on the hyway at about 9500'.The tiger trout fishing is great(10"-20" with 14"about average)Some people like to use worms near the inlet which is very effective,I prefer a gold with red spots jakes lure fished off the dam near the outlet(they seem to like the current)They are very hard fighters and can get to be good size(2-4lb is not uncommon)It's a very scenic area and is one of my favoite spots.The tigers can be off and on though so go prepared to fish some other near by waters(huntington creek,electric lake,cleveland,scofield,benches pond,bouldger,upper & lower fish creek are all within 15 minutes.Good Luck Lonnie

During the days of my youth, my family would fish in some small lakes near huntington ... your mention of these places took me back in time. It is my desire to go back and visit some day. Will have to get out a topo to orient myself ... don't think electric lake even existed in those days. Thanks for the memories!

Like Tube Babe, I also have many fond family memories fishing the Fairview Canyon area. When I was a kid Electric Lake had not been built, and Huntington Canyon was drained every year, and I don't believe it even held fish. Additional reservoirs to add to your list to fish in the area are: Fairview Reservoir, Gooseberry, Millers Flat and a little further drive to Joes Valley. It seems you can always catch fish somewhere in the area --- lots of choices.

you might want to wate a little while befor you pack your gear up and head to hunnington dudes.. i was up there 3 day's ago ant there is still ice on the lake real slushy ice.. might be a week or two more befour it starts braking up..

Tribs are illegal until second Saturday in July on Huntington (locals call it Mammoth) and there are usually plenty of fish cops in the area. Tigers won't be in the Tribs in spring because they go through the spawning motions in fall. There are several lakes in the central Manti Lasal range that hold tiger trout. I have fished them for about 6 years when they were first planted there. They are extremely aggresive (compared to rainbows and 14" cutts) and excellent fighters. If you fish Huntington, try jig fishing a Jake's Spin-A-Lure. I know it sounds funny, but it is the most successful way I have fished for them there.

fishforfish, a fiend of mine took me to hunnington a couple years ago to fish those tigers. We fished off the damn with a night crawler and a casting bubble and retrieved slowly.we caught six fish between us and one was a little over 3 pounds. WOW what beautiful fish and scenery! I'll have to go back one day.-TIBBZZ-
