so i decided that since i did not work till 5 pm tonight id go try my luck fishing augar falls for sturgeon. I walked into the hole and started to fish about 11:30 and was not having a good day i mssed a few bites but was happy to be out. I had just reeled in and rebaited up and was getting ready to cast when these guy start hollering at me from the top of the cliffs about a fire. this got my attention as things here are very very dry and i had been thinking as i walked into the hole how easily a fire could start and with all the dead tumble weeds piled up in the gullys it could be a big old fire so needless to say i packed up and was outa there as quick as i could well when i got to the top the flames were 200ft away and about 20 ft tall. so i had two chosies go back and jump in the river or try to outrun the flames. well dumb old me i decide well im in ok shape ill just run on outa here. (carrying a cooler full of water and bait a cammel pack with about a liter of water and 5 pounds of sinkers and a sturgeon rod. So i offer up a little prayer and get hoofing it. Well as we all know outrunning a fire with a wind at your back isn't all to likely so after running for a while i decide well shoot this isn't working now what two options either poor all the water i have on myself and run back the way i came into the flame down the dirt road and hope to get through and onto the black or make a break for the river and jump in. i decide river. so im picking my approach when out of the flames comes a pickup truck so i choose option C and jump into the bed truck. to whom ever that was if you read this thanks and come into the Addison pizza hut and ask for Jon ill hook you up with a free pizza. so im jump out at the fork in the road scramble across the broke bridge and get safely to my car here are a few pics of the flames

Boy, that's not a situation many of us find ourselves in. Glad it worked out OK. Makes you wonder what started it.

Amazing story. I can only imagine the happiness you felt in seeing that pickup. Glad you lived to fish another day.

glad to hear that you made it out of there safely. as you finally realized, trying to outrun a fire is usually not a very good idea....lots of dead, and seriously crippled victims to attest to that. fortunately you didn't become another statistic.

Probably good that you didn't have a fish on, you may have been less likely to run up and see how bad the fire was.

Glad you made it out ok. I watched the fire for a bit yesterday afrternoon, the local fire departments and BLM did a good job getting it under control. Could have been a lot bigger if they had not gotten on it fast. I heard it was a cigarette that started it
