Middle Provo

Had the day off went to Middle Provo. Never went through Guardsmans Pass so made the drive up BC through to Jordanelle. Got there at 1pm fished till 5. Fished below the dam section with various nymphs and midges under and indicator, no hatch yet. Landed 3 browns, one was a baby, pretty cool.

Went downstream in the car, parked up, walked down this path and bam a giant freaking moose 40 yards away. Young bull. We hunkered down, waited for it to leave while it took its grand old time, and fished that deep pool where it channels off into irrigation on the one side it looks like. Fish started rising around 3, we switched to dries, caddis, BWO, PMD's and my brother got a 1 on BWO 2 on caddis with black body, while missing a few, I got the skunk. For a Monday there were 15 other guys in that section, not bad I guess. Picture of the moose attached, bottom right.

Nice report. Things are sometimes about a month behind in that cold water up closer to the dam. BWOs winding down there (still) but lower, below River Road, PMDs and summer caddis starting to appear.

I was in the River Road area on Friday and fish were active all afternoon. Light hatch activity but lots of willing chasers/biters.

Always fun to surprise a moose (or vice -versa). []

We definitely surprised him.

We were on the path up above the bank so there was no way he could get up to where we were. We were standing there, and he finally noticed us. "Looked" our way for a good 5 minutes then took another 10 minutes to waltz into the next tree line. Seems like the trees over there are pretty tasty if you are a moose.

We gave him his distance and respected his space more importantly. Fishing is great, but not worth risking a trample.

I walked up on a bull elk one time [], talk about needing a new pair of shorts, I was half way up the tree when I realized it was the one we were tracking for the day....

I was fishing the upper Big Cottonwood Creek a couple years ago when the willows behind me started shaking violently... figured it was just my buddy messing with me so jumped up on the bank to see what was going on and found myself eye-to-eye with momma moose and her calf ripping at the browse. Thankfully they just kept munching away and worked their way down the bank.
