Without seeing what it is actually doing, it's hard to visualize.... But, those augers are four stroke augers and they do have some good torque on them. I don't have an data in front of me to back it up, but I think they have more torque than a lot of the gas mixed augers (unless you had a big gas mixed auger before).
When they are actually punching through the ice you likely won't notice the wobble because the auger can't move as much side to side (movement restricted by the ice on the sides forming the hole).
I bought a Jiffy Propane Auger 3-4 seasons ago and I love it. I hear good things about the Eskimo as well.
