Hey Lynn this is a great post, I love the info that is presented here. You have done an excellent job of setting the stage for helping everyone to up their games... Don't think there is anything that I do that hasn't been mentioned other than I might mention the knots I use to keep my hooks from pulling loose in the fight. I have went to the palomar knot which is simple to tie, but very strong... I don't think I've had a knot failure since I went to this knot. If I have it was due to the synching down and pulling it too tight so the line is weakened and that would have been with mono. The braid to hook connections have been very strong and although I cut off my hooks and retie occasionally, it's just to keep from having the line weaken and give way when the hoped for monster finds my bait. I do use the night crawlers for my spring cattin and I like the Okuma Avenger baitfeeder for a reel... You're almost getting me excited to start catfishing even though I'm still loving the ice... PS... I rig sturdy and heavy duty and still get a great fight, those that like light line take the chance to lose the big one when you can't turn them away from the hazards... One of my bigger fish in my earlier days pulled me right into the bulrushes and wrapped around them till it got loose and there wasn't a thing I could do about it, the 8lb test wouldn't hold to turn it... So I'm a Power Pro 20-30 lb test guy myself... MH rods...
