I got off work at 2 am and launched at Rabbit Gulch at 4:30 am. My Wife is now positive that I have a couple of screws lose she said that I left little doubt. I wanted to launch at knight Hollow but I was a little worried about the wind, so you might say I was old yeller clear through. Water temp at launch was 60 degrees but what a beautiful morning, I now had high expectations. I started trolling cranks at around 2.0 mph and changed speeds as often as my Mrs changes her mind. By first light i had my first rays of hope with a 14 inch smally on a #5 firetiger flicker shad I was sure it just had to be a walleye but to no avail. Over the next 3 plus hours I caught 20 smallies 3 over 13 inches on anything from cranks to plastics. They were all in 4 to 14 feet of water and I surmise that they are starting to nest. The water clarity was incredible in many spots I could see bottom in 17 feet of water not exactly prime Walleye conditions. I guess I should have launched at knight Hollow. Overall not a bust but Walleye and Perch were my target species and I was skunked by that measure. But I suggest if anyone goes to Starvation they fish where the water is at least a little dis colered.
