Craig, thats' the difference between fishing the river and Utah Lake. River flow and growth on the bottom will many times cause the fishing pole to act differently.
You can get your line set just so with bait where you want it, and the rod tip will almost constantly jiggle, and tap, and even bend a little. That can be water flow bouncing it on the bottom in vegetation, or small fish pulling at the edges of the bait.

Most of us that fish the river regularly for Cats, use large hooks, with big chunks of bait. The small fish nibble and tug at it, but when a Cat of more size takes it, the rod bends over and the drag screams. And then sometimes it turns out to be just a log floating down river...............[Wink]
