OK Jeff, read your post on the current standings. Here are a few good reasons, maybe, that south team is so far ahead of north in total fish.
More of the south members are Retired and can get out during the week when the other traffic on the water is lighter. []
The larger body of water of Utah Lake provides multiple areas to find Cats, and provides a good cut bait source (White Bass). Can't legally use cut WB on any other body of water.
The most productive northern body of water seems to be Bear River, from Cuttler to the Bird Refuge. Lots of water there, but not as accessible to many of the northern team. Lots of Private land along those banks, lots of Posted NO TRESPASSING, or not accessible Federal Wildlife land.
And yet, I believe the state record Catfish is from the north area, and the contest winners for several of the last few years have been northern team members.
No matter. We on both teams will do the best we can in the waters we have available. And enjoy the back and forth good natured trash talking [sly].
That said, the wife and I are planning a weekend trip to UL this Fri-Sun with every intent of poaching the biggest cats we can find. She needs a 3rd for her post, and I need a good bump. []
