Moose Pond is also a good place to take kids. When you head out of Red Canyon, just take a right going towards Manila and it's only a few minutes down the road on the left. It's planted with rainbow trout and even has tagged fish in it for Fishing with the Fox, and summer long tag fish contest. Bait, spinners, and spoons have been working well there.
On the Gorge near the dam, smallmouth bass have been very active and can be easily caught from shore. Someone mentioned Cedar Springs and the fishing pier at Dam Point, but also try Mustang Ridge and Sunny Cove just north of Dutch John. Ned rigs have been working really well, but you could also put a small jig under a bobber for you son and keep him entertained.
