OK I am going to give this info up...
That is an assumption that would usually be correct. But I will tell you you are missing out on fish at Jordanelle (and other lakes) for sure if you stick with that.
There are no absolutes in fishing, yes there are patterns and trends and most likelys. But whenever I say "never happen" in fishing they prove me wrong
I will pass this info along, believe it if you want, or not. Many people rely too much on temps, or try finding them with fish finder. Shallow fish are very hard to find with a fish finder, they scatter from the boat and the cone is so small with lots of surface clutter, it is easy to miss them or not see them at all. If you think they are there but don't mark them, they are most likely shallow.
I catch Kokes at Jordanele into August at 5 feet . I stack lines, 4 lines on two downriggers, I usually set my second line at 10 feet. I experiment with many different depths but always end up with them set up I catch very few deeper than 20 and that is only a handful.
You are correct that by the book, it is too warm for Kokes. But nobody told them ! I did temperature surveys from the surface down to 55 feet. By that survey, the Kokanee zone was 45 to 55 feet. But there were no fish there. The surface temp was 68.7 degrees at 20 feet it was still 67 degrees!!!! at 55 feet it was 51.9. Take lots of ice because the fish are warm, so cool them down quick.
That was a late July trip one of many I made up there we got our 16 fish limit in just over an hour and a half. We had a triple and a couple doubles. Only two of the fish that day were on the 10 foot rods all the others at 5 feet !!! I had a buddy in his boat with no downriggers that wanted to try and catch kokes, I had him follow me around, he got his four as well. He was using Monofilament and a small weight.
I have run into many guys up there saying they can't find or catch them. I clue them in to fish shallow, they look at me like Im lying to them In short order I see the net out fish on and a big thumbs up. Try it you will be pleasantly surprised.
Good luck tight lines

Clue: if you are not marking Kokanee, but you think/know they are there, where are they? They follwed this pattern all year for me, clear through the summer and into August.

See the post below, I catch them qll summer up there shallow !!! Of the two trip short trips up there this year 12 fish all but 2 at 5 feet !!
Try it you will like it...
So the Kokes on Jordanelle are typically shallow, or is it just this time of year?
time spent fishing isn't deducted from ones life
