The Ultimate 16 Species Fishing Contest 2004
Woohooo! Another one for the contest! Hehe... funny thing is, just before I caught this fish, I was telling Duncan (my girlfriend's 6 yr old) that I better put the batteries in the camera just in case we caught some fish. We had already been out there for 45 minutes and we were getting cold with the cold front blowing in across the lake.

It wasn't more than 3 casts after putting the batteries in the camera that I caught this one. Duncan was too cold to fish but was happy to be the camera kid.

The fish was caught at Crooked Lake. It was just the two of us at the time. Caught it on a Terminator Snapback Creature Bait with a "Slo-Poke Grubmaster" shoved through the nose, into the body, and the hook coming out it's back. This is like a tube jig with the eye of the jig coming out the nose of the creature bait.

I figured, the design of the "grubmaster" would keep the head and from part of the belly face down with the floating plastic at an angle upward as I slowly crawled the creature bait back to me, pausing once in a while.

I had 7 strikes tonite. Some while stopped. Some while dragging. This fish was my 6th strike. I got a good hookset and reeled him in. Being new to bass fishing and plastics fishing I was quite surprised I actually caught one. I put all my reading knowledge to work for this one fish.

As soon as I had him in, I realized my BigFish baseball cap was in the car. My t-shirt wasn't a BigFish t-shirt. I frantically dug through my tackle box, was getting ready to run to the car with fish in hand, when Duncan pointed to the back of my tackle box and asked, "Is this what you're looking for?" What a relief for not only me, but the bass as well! That poor thing had been out of the water for almost a minute by this time!

I measured the fish and Duncan snapped the picture!

Okay, enough story telling. I'm sure you want to see this beauty.
