Scofield Report
#1
[Smile]Yesterday (Friday June 24th) headed up to Scofield with my boy, my buddy and his boy. We launched the boat and were on the lake by 6:45. We launched at the second State Park by the dam. We headed out to troll down the Eastern shoreline. Before we got out of the harbor my 8 year son had a nice, fat 19" slab bow in the boat! This was just a preview of what was to come for the day. The fishing was so fast and hot that my buddy and I did not fish. The two boys (ages 8 & 10) did all the fishing. We pulled off of the lake at 1:30 and had caught over 50 fish on the day. We trolled down the Eastern shore and picked up fish steady all the way down. We were trolling triple teasers - black with pink bellies. We also trolled a black and white dare devil. Most of the fish were caught on black paterns. We did pick up a few on a Jakes silver and red spin a lure, and a rainbow needlefish. Most of the fish we picked up along the rocky shoreline were in the 12" class. As we got further South into the willows and flooded weedlines we started picking up bigger fish. The water wasn't too deep - most of the time between 10' - 15'. We could see the bottom at times. The water was very clear. My son picked up a nice 21" 2 /12 lb cutt that had a whole 5" minow in its throat. The majority of the fish we caught were fat bows in the 17" - 19" range. About 10:30 it started slowing down a little and so we headed out the island where we trolled around the island for about 2 hours. We continued to pick up fish on steady and regular pace. About 12:30 we headed back down to the South end of the lack and trolled our way back. The fishing started to pick up again and we picked up several more nice bows on the way back in.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day up there. The lake was like glass all morning and the wind never did really kick up. We did see some black clouds form at the head of the canyon and saw some lightening at the head of the canyon but the weather was nice all day. The fishing was exciting for the kids. My son was thrilled at the size of the fish and fight they put up. I didn't catch a fish all day as I spent the time teaching my son how to troll and helping him land fish and keep from getting tangled. I didn't mind at all as watching his excitement was enough enjoyment. I could sure use more days out like this.
