I was talking with a guy the other day, and I thought I share a bit of the conversation. Not many people realize it, but Blue Marlin are NOT the largest billfish in the ocean. Black marlin are capable of reaching sizes in the 2000 pound mark. The world record is 1560 pounds, where as the Blue Marlin record is 1376. Blue marlin are slightly more common, hints the reason they are more often targeted and boast a higher popularity. Hawaii, most commonly the Kona islands, houses both species of marlin along with hosting the all tackle IGFA world record for Blue marlin listed above.
