Whities Galore at Utah Lake 7/28/06
#3
Sorry we couldn't hook up. I wrote my initial message earlier this afternoon and headed out the door. I didn't read your reply until I got back this evening from my second trip.

This time I didn't go solo, as I took my 9- and 7-year-old sons with me. The white bass weren't in the same location as last night, but we didn't have to go far to locate them again. They were within 100 yards from where I found them yesterday.

Casting up against and around pockets of reeds and bullrushes in thigh-deep water, we kept prospecting until we found the schools. On three separate occasions my oldest son reeled in two fish at a time, one on his top little white roadrunner jig and another on his bottom 1/32 oz. chartreuse tube jig. Fun, fun, fun.

I know that Tanner, my oldest son, and I caught at least 15 fish each, and my youngest caught at least four or five on his own. (I let him reel in a few of mine, too.) So we had at least a 35-fish evening.

I caught one that I swore was a big walleye or maybe even a small catfish, it fought so hard. When I finally got it to the surface, I measured it, and it taped out at 13 inches. By far the biggest whitie of the evening.

I probably won't try for them again for a few days, but I'd be willing the first of next week to go again on some evening if you'd like to hook up. I'd be happy to show you where I caught them, though I'd bet that most shoreline locations with some submerged cover could produce fish.

It would be nice to meet you, though, and learn some of your LMB tactics, as those fish have eluded me thus far on Utah Lake. If you're not finding the whities, I know where they are. Let me know if you want to hook up next week.
