[]I was always told that hooksets are free so that being the case I might as well get my money's worth and give a lively hookset. (Truth be known I would hook more fish if I could ever master the "snap the wrist" technique, which I am trying to do, but it is difficult to break old habits. One reason they may jump more when I hook them is I try to get them to the surface quickly so I can get back down and catch another one while the school is still in the neighborhood. The fish is often still lively when it hits the surface because it hasn't been fought very long. I probably lose a few more fish that way, but then again I probably catch a few more fish because I get back down faster. I don't do this in deep water, or with larger fish.
