Gorge Report 11/15 & 11/16
#25
Pat,
Glad to hear that the fish are at least good to eat. I don't bad mouth any fish that is either good to eat or is sporting to catch.

the question of snagging or fowl hooking macs at the Gorge is open to debate. I don't believe in fishing for fish on spawning beds, even though it is a quick way to hook many large fish.

I have caught several hundred macs at the Gorge, and the last method of fishing I used was jigging. It is impossible to avoid fowl hooking a few, no matter when or where you fish.

I have no knowledge of these fish at the gorge, but according to your post & pics, they are a good game fish. In that respect, they are much better than the macs. The first macs that I caught in the late '80's, were taken by dragging steel with large flat fish. I took home two fish, 14 & 18 lbs. I tried every way in the world to eat them, fried, baked, etc. everything by a gasoline marinate. They were awful. At the time, the major source of food for the macs were trash fish. Never kept one after that.

I guess we will have to keep an eye on the changing conditions at the gorge. My one big concern is what will happen to the (in lake) Kokanee egg beds. I'll have to read up on these fish to learn about a fish I know nothing about.

Thanks for the info.
