Is Henry's Lake open year-round?
#33
[reply]
Henrys used to be open to ice fishing years and years ago. Also the folk most adamant against it are the ones with business interests at the lake. It would hurt their wallet.

Fishermen from Idaho, Utah and Montana are drivin' 20 hours to fish Parkland in MB, Canada. Why don't these people stop and fish at Henrys, why are they drivin' 20 hours instead of 5? Reason; Henrys is overrated. People are willing to drive to a foreign country, insted of up to Island Park. Reason is fish are bigger and more of them. Henrys is overrated. [/reply]

[black]But you're also talking apples to oranges. Bear Lake Cutts vs. Yellowstone cutts and hybrids, not to mention the brookies of Henrys.[/black]
[black]Strawberry has 1.5 million fishing hours of pressure each year. Henry's has nowhere near that pressure. Strawberry can sustain ice fishermen. It's just a little bigger and deeper. (and a lot more fish)[/black]
[black]In another post you slam the Utah DWR, in this post you slam the Idaho DWR. Both divisions are inept it seems to you. I suppose you have more doctorates than the biologists in either state that work for the DWR's, along with more experience in the field. Yes they are dummies and haven't a clue. That's why they get paid to do what they do and you don't.[/black]
[black]Next you say Henry's is overrated. I agree with you. Let's not have any ice fishing and shorten the spring/summer season by a month to bring back those big boys,l just like in the good old days.[/black]
You mention also that Henrys used to be open year round years ago. People also used to drive Model T's too, but things change. Like populations.
[black]As for people who are most interested in keeping the lake like it was, you're blowing smoke again. [/black]
[black]Take a survey, poll, whatever and see. People that fish that lake year after year are very protective of it. People that hope to fish it in the future are too. You have a gem of a lake. Don't f*&K it up, by not knowing the facts. Just because you thinks it's a good idea to do something, you have consequences that follow each decision that goes into a regulation change.[/black]

[black]And here's one of your quotes,"[#0000ff]There have been 16-18 lbs fish caught through the ice at Strawberry. Last year in SL TRibune there was a guy who caught two in that range. These fish really weighed that, they used certified scales, not Schiess scales." [/#0000ff][/black]
[#000000]Actually, one fish that big.[/#000000]

[black]As for a Schiess scale. I'd trust it like a certified scale. When you do something long enough, you get pretty good at it.[/black]

And the dead horse gets a beating again...
[black]Almost forgot, you ask why do people drive 20+ hours to fish Manitoba? I guess you've never been there.[/black]
