Steve,

I just returned from a great trip to Destin,FL with the family. I thought I would share a story and ask a question.

I spent the week fishing the surf, the jetties, the Okaloosa Pier , and took one trip out on a sport boat for Kingfish. My four-year old daughter really loves to fish and she had a great time catching bait for me. I helped with a spinning rod rigged up with a Sabiki rig on the pier, what a blast.

At one point, a couple of big tarpon came cruising thru the area and I bet they thought that it was raining lures from all of the hardware being thrown at them from the guys on the pier.

Anyway, we had a good day/week catching ladyfish, blue runners, and jacks on small jigs and spoons.

On the offshore trip, we caught 1 dolphin, 1 cobia, 1 bonito, and 8 mackerel. We had one lady on the boat, her first trip, and of course she landed the biggest King of the day. It was a 21 lb beauty.

My question is this. What area of the gulf coast allows closest access to deep water and species like tuna, wahoo, marlin, and sailfish. I seem to only be able to book trip that are overnight (expensive) for those species.

Thanks and great fishing.
