When I strip the line back in I try to keep the line in the hand doing the stripping.. I am usually [pretty neat about it but have a bad tendency to drop it so I can control. okay .. try to control the line as I am casting... I know I false cast way to much but Im learning.. lol...
.... as far as learning different casts.. I look at it this way.. the more I learn.. the better off I will be.. I can only guess from my limited experience.. that different situations warrant different approaches.. therefore learning a spey cast.. or even a modified one woujld benefit me in situations where there are a lot of obstructions behind me and therefore a backcast is all but impossible....
..as far as the stripping basket goes... I see it as a way to manage my line more neatly.. I do worry about damage caused to my line when I step on it.. or it gets caught on a rock etc.... like most things with this sport lines are not cheap... Id hate to lessen the life time of line because I did not look at all options available to me to help keep the line in better shape... [
