I love the modern day glass rods. I tend to favor the McFarland glass. It's a little slower than the Steffan Brothers rod. But I do like the Steffan don't get me wrong. I also have a Fengwick Ferrilite 6w that's a peach too. It's hammered but what can you expect for $20.
The Lami's are the slowest of the bunch. I've caught some big fish with that yellow rod.
If you want to learn to fly cast, get ahold of a glass rod and learn. If you get and fish with a glass rod for any length of time, you'd be amazed when you go back to a graphite rod or just fish with one. You learn timing with glass and bamboo. It'll spill over to graphite if you do it right. [/reply]
[black][size 2]Yea I'm not well versed with the fly rod glass today, but have a decent chunk of experience with todays freshwater trolling glass thats offered. I've noticed some pretty big steps forward in the performance the last ..say 10yrs or so. So I can imagine how the fly sticks have improved. I've got an old Wonderrod that I forgot about up on a shelf that happend to surface a couple days ago when I was looking for some other stuff.. gave me a good chuckle to see it.. anywho.. thanks for the advice on the casting, mojo.. I'm a long ways away from being where I'd like to be but things are looking a hair better.. been practicing double hauls the last few days trying to get my left hand (I'm right handed) coordinated consistnatly.. been fun.. had some good laughs too [laugh] .. I'm a little too quick yet going forward with a good chunk of line in the air.[/size][/black]
