Anyone here favor wolves coming to Utah?
#26
I don't think you have to worry. Yellowstone reintroduced the wolf in 95. There are several million visitors a year and they haven't eaten a fisherman yet. I have read through the comments and I certainly see alot of opinions. Many of which I disagree with. Comments about research from people who should check out some Research that has been done by people such as David Mech and Doug Smith. The wolf certainly brings out an opinion from everyone.
I am in the middle of preparing an hour and a half presentation on the wolf for a wildlife management class I teach. I would agree that the wolf is a tremendous predator. He is also smart enough not eat himself out of existance. Utah has very few places left where the wolf could be introduced. Mostly because of the poor job our species has done in managing for the future.
I would rather sleep on a mountain that has a wolf pack than walk the streets of our big cities. That is where you will find the thieves and murders.
I find it hard to believe that the wolf that was taken into our homes an domesticated is called man's best friend while the ones that remain in the wild are despised and hated. We must of seen something that was worth while in the wolf. The native americans called them brothers and lived with them for thousands of years.
If you want to blame something for the decline in wildlife blame our species. We are the ones that are destroying all the habitat. Just my opinion. gshorthair
