Well, he used em several times in the 8 year war with Iran which I would consider a neighbor, not to mention his own people..
Thanks, I wasn't aware that chemical weapons were used in that war.
[cool]Japan, didn't they attack us? Wake the sleeping giant ring a bell? Even with the events of Hiroshima & Nagasaki Japan (today) is one of our greatest allies.
Yes, they attacked us. I was merely making the comment that we are one of the few countries who have been known to use WMD, and the only one to use nuclear weapons on an enemy. Japan is one of our greatest allies. It'd be nice if Iraq ended up that way, but somehow I doubt it.
We never would have gone into Iraq had their dictator would have acknowledged the countless UN resolutions. At that point it wasn't the U.S. telling him to abide by the resolutions it was a collective world voice! He (aam) clearly had a choice and he chose poorly.
That is true, but when we invaded, we didn't act as that world voice. We disregarded the majority of that voice and took matters into our own hands. We parted ways with what the UN wanted to do, and did our own thing. Now, this isn't to say that perhaps the UN was being too lenient and not being effective, but nevertheless, that is what we did.
I'm not entirely happy with what's happened over there (Iraq) either but we can't simply pull up stakes and leave.
Agreed. We can't abandon the mess now, unfortunately. I think we do need to find a way to get out much faster than current plans though.
We need to find a way to eliminate the casualties and continue supporting their democracy.. Take Germany for example! How long have we had a significant presence there, like 64 years and we're still there?
Yep, but they aren't attacking and killing our boys there.
How can we possibly be more hated by extremists? The religious/extremist beliefs they hold aren't something new. They have always hated us and our western civilization, it's what they do. There's absolutely nothing you nor I can do about that, it's just the way it is.
I agree. I guess more what I mean is that we have caused more people to have hard feelings towards America. We have created more animosity, and world opinion of us has deteriorated significantly. We have probably helped Al Qaida recruit more people than they have lost because more moderate people are fed up and so are turning extremist.
Although I disagree with you on these issues, I do appreciate that fact that it's a civil discussion. At least we both agree with the notion, God Bless America[]
I also appreciate our civil discussion. I enjoy talking politics and hearing opposing viewpoints. I always learn a lot, and I feel I become a more well rounded individual as a result. I was looking forward to your response.
I detest when discussions turn ugly, into childish name-calling and whatnot. You probably know what (who) I am talking about. [sly]
