I hate to take the chance at sounding like an a$$hole here but why in the world would you catch white fish all day when there are trout to be had. I have fish in several places and I have never caught a white fish that fights worth a damn. I catch 12''-17'' whites on the Salt River all the time and I pull them right in with my 7'6'' 3 weight. Plus they steal food from the trout, and they are an 8 white fish to 1 trout ratio on the Weber. I wish the ratio was 8 trout to 1 whitefish. I guess it can be nice becsause all you have to do is put on a small bead head and catch fish all day long. I grew up in Wyoming and I just moved back so maybe my redneck roots are a little to close to the surface, but white fish have always been trash fish to me. They really are not that bad smoked, but you can smoke a turd and it would be ok. I don't think your a dork for catching white fish on purpose, because I have been guilty for it as well. But it is usually to play baseball with them. You can see a dead white fish on the bank and it will be there forever, because the fox and birds won't even eat them.
