The only fish I have actually beat with a club is carp and that is when I was like 12 years old. Even though I really don't like white fish it is not worth getting in trouble over it. To the other point of competing for food with trout. Trout eat bugs, and white fish eat bugs = same food source. Trout will eat other things as well, but a river can only support so many fish if I understand correctly ( i;m not being a smart a$$). Say a river can support 1000 fish per mile. If 800 of those fish are white fish isn't the only way to have more trout to thin the white fish? I know they are native and they are considered a game fish. To katghoti's remarks, I really don't think it is narrow minded to prefer trout. I even said in my post that I didn't think it was dorky to target white fish. If you like them thats fine. I just hear all the time that they fight so hard, and they are such a great sport fish. I do use 8lb floro, even with small nymphs. so pulling them is easier, but I fish really light rods, and the trout will take drag and fight. The onlyI time I have had white fish fight hard is when you snag them. Katghoti I am not trying to start a fight with you or say that your lame for liking white fish, I just don't get it. If you ever want to come to Star Valley I will buy your license and row the boat, I mean that. Maybe the browns up here just fight harder but you catch a brown and catch a white fish of the same size and there is nowere near the same amount of fight in a white fish.
