Re: calico buck. I was told that they were called "pinto" deer by the WI consevation office that responded to our phone report of a deer floating in Ballard Lake in Vilas county WI about 35 years ago. It was a doe that had died and was floating. The second one I know of was a smaller buck that was shot during rifle season in Wisconsin near Trilby lake north of woodruff in the late 1970's. This is the first time that I had heard them called Calico. I was told that if an animal was calico it was a female.
