It does not matter how many "Moderates" live in our states, these Eco Terrorist groups do not care.
Just look what they are doing with the de-listing of wolves in the Great Lakes. They just recently won a lawsuit to relist the wolves to the ESA (on a technicality) in Michigan, Wisconson and Minnesota, and the only management plan that all three of these states had was the monitoring of wolves. None of the states were offering a wolf hunt, and the three state population of wolves is well over 5000 animals.
Hunting this animal does not matter to a vast majority of these people, no matter the location. Yes, you do have a few people in this debate who anthropomorphize wolves, and cannot stand the thought of a human killed wolf, but for the most part the killing of the wolf isn't the issue.
The whole issue of wolves for many of these Eco groups has to do with keeping them listed on the Endangered Species Act. As long as wolves are listed on the ESA this gives these Eco Terrorist groups control over Federal Lands, State Lands, and Private Lands. In fact it the ESA is the main tool being used to accomplish this.
These peope want an end to Public Land Grazing, Ranching in genreral, Snowmachining, Hunting, Oil and Gas Production and Mining. The ESA is the tool being used to accomplish their goals, and rather successfully I might add. The amount of lawsuits that have been filed just this year to list species on the ESA in Wyoming is disgusting. Many of the animals they want listed are either at record population or still have viable numbers that are allowing hunting.
Look into the lawsuit by Idaho based Wester Watersheds Project to list the Sage Grouse on the ESA, and the massive amounts of Public and Private lands that would come under control of the ESA. It is disturbing, IMHO.
You are right though that wolves are here to stay, there is no doubt about that in my mind.
