Well, the line weights I use are 6lb and 8lb test. I love Stren!!! the max the 200 Spirex carries is 10, but I think they may make a 300 or 400. If so, i am betting the 400 would probably carry 20 lb test pretty easily, although I have a hunch it wouldn't be enough yardage wise that you are used to. With 8lb Stren, I can get 120 yards on my 200. With 6lb, I can get 170.

I find with my Spirex, coupled with a Berkley Bionix IM6 rod thats 6'6 long, I can handle just about any freshwater fish I migh happen on. Although I wouldn't go so far as to say I could tackle a sturgeon, just because I know better. I would get thrashed pretty severely with my setup. All in all though, the spirex is extremely well balanced and remarkably tourble free. I own four of them and plan to purchase five more next year. (with tax returns..whoohoo!!)

I prefer the rear drags over the front drags, but the rear drags are a little heavier.

Still, all my really big fish have come off the rear drag and confidence is an important part in landing an outsized fish. Considering that carp i caught went nearly 5 times over the suggested limit (weight) of the line, I know I can land just about anything I set a hook into with it.

I might have to look into seeing just how big they make the Spirex models. I am going trophy catfish fishing this upcoming year. have my sights set on a fifty or better. Strictly catch, photgraph and release) and would love to have a bigger spirex backing me up against those brutes.

If I come across anything specific, I'll let you know, Might be something you would be interested in if you fish any inland waters at all.

keep those lines wet

Daniel C.
