Old Shimano Reel, Suggestions?
#3
First off, that was a top quality reel in it's time. There is no reason not to use it now. It might not run quite as smooth as a new reel but if it's in good shape, it will work just fine. One thing I would point out is that it was built in the early to mid 1980's. If it has not been serviced on a regular basis, the greaseis most likely solidified and the oil has dried up. If the reel seems to be in good shape and you want to use it, you should have it serviced. Older quality casting reels will have an amazing performance gain form a service and tune up.
As for the 2nd question, I beleive they sold for about $50.00 in the 80's
